As spring is bursting out around us, life is alive with ideas and plans

My clients are launching new programs, tended in the long, dark days of winter, ready to bloom and bring beauty to the world.

There is a new urgency to bring our magic and our gifts into the light. To offer a way forward of love, mutual respect and hope.

Yet, so often we can remain stuck in the chains of childhood wounding, societal expectation and ancestral rules.

Being raised in a patriarchal society has taught us to be small and quiet. Bold women, while admired, are also bitterly vilified. Only those who are anointed in perfection should speak.

And, let’s face it, perfection is an impossible standard to reach.

Sure, every now and then you can come close to perfection. But not consistently. Not really.

The first year I took grandkids to Disneyland/California Adventure/ Universal Studios, I planned for a perfect, magical trip. I gave in to the magic thinking of my imagination, not taking in the truth of what it would be like to travel with, and manage the needs of four unique, individual little people for six days.

The second year I set a goal of 90% happy. We all agree that we hit our goal. And some moments were golden perfection.

The point is, I didn’t let any wild tantrums over needing “just one more” outrageously expensive trinket keep me from doing it again! (Yes, we do have another Grammy Camp planned for this year!)

As a business witch you have lots and lots of things on your to-do list. Approaching that list with any unconscious bias toward perfection will stop you dead in your tracks.

What is a witch to do?

First thing is to just notice. What projects do you have half finished, stalled by whispers of doubt and frustration? What messages haven’t been sent to your tribe because they need “just one more” rewrite? What program haven’t you launched because you aren’t quite sure you are the expert needed to launch it?

These are all symptoms of something hidden deeply inside that says, “Being perfect here is the only way to protect myself from harm.”

Send love to the part of you urging perfection. If you are working with a healer or coach, ask them to assist you in going back in time to love the past life part of your soul that suffered and caused suffering because they were not perfect. Love the little inner child who received acknowledgment and validated only when her work was perfect.

Love all the parts of you.

And remind them, perfection is not for this world. This plane of existence is about experiencing all of life. The magical moments, the embarrassing failures, the beating of your heart when you just aren’t sure if the thing will be successful.

Then do the next right thing. Send the email, launch the program, hire the team member. Move forward. Make Progress over Perfection your rallying cry.

With all my heart,
