I’ve studied with some amazing money mentors over the years—but my greatest teacher has been Money itself.
Several years ago, I invested in a high-end coaching program and enrolled in an intensive course of study—both within two weeks of each other.
Each program was led by incredible thought leaders… and I used credit cards to fund both.
It was the most debt I had ever taken on, outside of buying a house.
I loved the work, but the weight of the debt felt sooooo heavy. Was I betraying my dreams by loading myself up this way?
I was scared and embarrassed to see those balances.
Helplessly, I dropped into meditation and asked to speak with the energy of money:
“Money,” I asked, “this is so much debt. What am I going to do?”
The force of Money’s response shocked me.
“HOW DARE YOU!” it said. “I gave you the resources to invest in what you needed… and you’re complaining about how I delivered them to you?”
Oouf.
That truth cracked something open in me.
Because the reality was, I had carefully cultivated a great credit rating. My cards had low balances and gradually rising limits. When the right opportunities came, I was able to say yes …
… because Money had already been preparing me.
I softened. I apologized. And we had a long talk.
Here’s what Money explained:
Debt isn’t bad when used consciously.
In fact, one of those programs gave me a VIP bonus day worth $5,000—just for paying in full.
The interest on the card? Tiny compared to the transformation I received.
The second program gave me tools that allowed me to increase my rates and to serve my clients at a higher level.
By year’s end, I had earned enough to pay off the debt – in full.
“The problem with debt,” Money said, “is when it’s used unconsciously, to fill emotional voids or fund things that don’t bring lasting return.”
Now, I no longer aim to be debt-free.
Instead, I work in partnership with Money—using it wisely and strategically, with immense gratitude.
