It happened again.
I’ve been talking about how we are going to release and rewrite the Good Girl Code during our Art of Money Magic event on April 18th and 19th.
And Source gave me another chance to practice.
Earlier this week I told you about an ex-friend and how all my polite, well-trained good girl rules popped into my head… and how I chose instead to do what was good for me.
Well.
This time I wasn’t quite as successful at choosing me.
I was invited to be on a podcast. It felt a little masculine. A little off. But a woman had invited me. And good girls honor commitments.
Even when my intuition whispered, something isn’t right here.
I showed up. It turned out to be a man interviewing me. We recorded what felt like a good conversation. My defenses went down.
And the moment the recording stopped?
He launched into a sales pitch.
“How much money are you making per month?”
“What if it were 10 times that?”
“You could stop letting people do payment plans…”
“You could hire us…”
“Get on a sales call…”
And while every cell in my body started to tighten, do you know what I did?
I stayed polite.
I kept answering.
I tried to find a graceful exit.
Because the Good Girl Code doesn’t just say be nice.
It says:
It is dangerous to confront a man.
It is dangerous to say no.
It is dangerous to set a boundary.
That code is old.
Ancestral.
Wired into our nervous systems.
And it is expensive.
- Expensive to our money.
- Expensive to our power.
- Expensive to our leadership.
After I got off the call, I realized how many boundaries had been crossed. And this morning, I sent him a note. I told him clearly that he had crossed a line. That I did not consent to that kind of bait and switch. That I would never work with them.
That was the rewrite.
Not perfection.
Not failure.
Practice.
